About this class

Musical Masters is a class for students to play, sing, dance, and be a part of music in a fun and engaging way.  Our goal is for students to walk away with an excitement and interest in music.  Students will sing, dance, play instruments, all while learning musicality. This class allows students to release a lot of energy through movement and play.  At the end of the lesson they are excited to tell others what they have learned, and they want to know more about the world of music.

Students will learn about instruments, composers, rhythm, reading music, and more!  Students will know about different instrument families and how each type of instrument produces sound.  Students will play and sing in group games to teach them about being part of a musical group.  Our goal is for students to walk away with an excitement and interest in music.

A typical class would begin with a musical game.  The teacher may start by singing a song that directs students to come join.  After the first game, the teacher might do a rhythm passing game with a picture of a quarter note.  “This is a quarter note. A what? A quarter note!” The teacher then passes the quarter note to the next student and we repeat in rhythm.  Once we know this, the teacher may put four quarter notes on the board and teach the class how to read the musical rhythm using the Kodaly Method. After this, we may move into a classical piece of music (Russian Dance from The Nutcracker).  We listen to the song and dance freely.  The teacher asks about what the students heard. The teacher then says that she saw painting in her mind!  She then picks up a streamer and demonstrates the movements she envisioned.  She gives each student a streamer and they all dance the movements together as they listen to the music the next time.  These types of movement games would continue throughout the class.
