About this class

Escape Artsists is a way for kids to solve logic puzzles, learn problem-solving strategies, and gain the foundational skills for coding.  Our goal is for students to walk away with an excitement and interest in math and learning.  We foster an environment for students to release a lot of energy through movement and play.  At the end of the lesson, students are excited to tell others what they have learned, and they want to learn more about the world of riddles.

Each class will have a different theme to create a special experience.  We will become royalty, wizards, animals, pirates, insects, ridders and more!  We will learn problem solving strategies that can be applied to tests such as Math Kangaroo, COGAT, ITBS, and more. Students will learn to use logic to approach a problem and not be tricked by distractions.   Students will play games that will enhance their creativity and work on coding skills.

A typical class would begin with a mystery problem such as a treasure map, a coded message from a historical figure, or a riddle from a notorious bank robber.  Students work together to "crack the code" and begin the class based on theme of that week.  We would then move into a game where we would learn about problem solving strategies.  For example, we may focus on word problems that are quite confusing.  We would work on how to break those problems down to figure out what we are being asked.  As teams, we would break messages down to lead to a secret location in the center where a prize would be waiting!  To end the class, we would learn how to do basic coding by playing with coding toys such as coding mice.  We would code the mice to get them through the labyrinth.
